Grand Haven

One beautiful weekend day this summer we ventured to Grand Haven. Tim and I used to do this all the time before we had kids and also when the kids were little. We would walk the boardwalk and pier and then go to dinner. We loved it. We haven't done it in a few year because it seemed kinda overwhelming with the kids. But we decided to go for it and I am so very thankful we did. What an awesome experience for the kids. They didn't remember being there so it was all new. They were like kids in Disneyland! They were running crazy all over the place and being loud. And the beauty of it was~ they could. There is so much to see and do they could hardly take it all in.
When we first got there we started on the boardwalk by the bleachers. We let them run up and down until they tired ....and they giggled, chased each other, waved to us from the top, yelled our names and loved watching the boats from "way up high!"

We continued walking and checking out the boats and answering 1000 questions, but we really didn't mind. It was a great learning experience for the kids and it was so fun. It helped that it wasn't too hot and there was a nice breeze. The best part had to be when we got to the end of the pier. The waves were crashing over the pier getting our feet wet which the kids thought was awesome. Also there were alot of people there and the kids also enjoyed watching people fish.

On the way back the kids decided that they wanted to go for a swim. I was of course a bit nervous about this because the waves were huge (ok~maybe not, but they were kinda big!) But I let them have at it.

Of course we had to take the scenic route and go up and over all of the hills of sand. That's part of the adventure!

Jackson and Jaideyn took off running into the waves. They were shocked at how big they were. At Sandy Pines the only waves they get is from boats and that is not much, so this was amazing to them!

I can't even put into words how big their smiles were and how much fun they had!

After swimming and walking so much the kids were hungry. We walked around town and found some little burger joint that suited us perfectly. I think we were the only ones in there the whole time, but the food was fabulous. Aves dug right into her burger! And yes~the food did come out on paper plates. Our kind of place!

After dinner we walked around a little more and enjoyed watching the boats. Then it was time for an ice cream cone. No trip to Grand Haven is complete without an ice cream cone! A day well spent full of fun, learning and enjoying being together as a family!
